Newcomers and ethno-cultural groups deserve to thrive, not just survive. We bridge communities and build understanding to advance equity and reconciliation.

The PBA builds capacity and connections among newcomers, racialized communities, and ethnocultural groups. Through mentorship, resource development, events, and networking, we help ethnocultural communities become self-sufficient.

Our city is growing, and the cultural dynamics of the province have shifted over the past few generations. The People’s Bridge Advocacy took root in this context of change over twenty years ago. Founded by Executive Director Senos Timon, the initial creation of the organization focused on humanitarian assistance for people in South Sudan and raising awareness in Canada about the ongoing conflict in Senos’ home country.

As a newcomer to Saskatoon, Senos quickly realized that there were many barriers to getting engaged in local community organizing, and many opportunities to lend his unique perspective to advocacy and decision-making efforts. He decided to shift the focus of the organization to help bridge ethno-cultural groups and bring their voices to the forefront of civic life.

Early on in his journey, Senos recognized how systemic racism was shaping the local relationships between newcomers, Indigenous people, and those with European ancestry. He knew that there was an important role in bridging understanding and practicing reconciliation through his work.

Today, the People’s Bridge Advocacy engages in a wide range of capacity and equity-focused activities, including reconciliation, leadership development, intercultural connections, advocacy, and more. We are proud to be one of the few organizations able to gather a wide range of cultural groups, bringing our experience as refugees and immigrants to helping the wider community thrive.
